Once you re-install Steam or,(insert client name :here: ) you have to point it to your old library on another drive. "Great, all I have to do is re-install Windows again, but my game library is safe on drive D:". However, your game libraries are stored on another drive. Say you have an issue with your OS, and you need to do a clean install and backup some files. They all not only have drm, but they make transffering game folders from drive to drive, a real pain in the ass. I've never used it, but from what I hear, it's the most unobtrusive video game client out there! Mainly because it's DRM-free, and doesn't hold your game executable and files ransom through it's own launcher and manifest files. I'm still not happy with what they did to Sim City, Dungeon Keeper, Command & Conquer, Star Wars, and so many other properties, but I'd at least look at their OTHER games. I put forth, if EA tomorrow decided to ditch the requirement for Origin, and made it completely optional, I might, MIGHT, give their store a perusal. I dig that! (I also dig that GOG has a lot of older titles I didn't have the money for, back in their day, so I was already pre-disposed to liking them!) I love GOG Galaxy b/c its major selling point was, "Use it, or don't." It was completely optional, non-invasive. Netflix was a great idea! Then there was Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney +, Paramount Plus, HBO Max, and the whole market and libraries became fractured. Though, as a consumer, I'm a little bothered by how many different services I need to sign up for and it created a problem that didn't exist before.Įdit: (The same thing happened with streaming services. The developer or publisher gets a greater share of the sale. UPlay, EA Origin, BNet Launcher, Epic Games Store. it took a while, but that's exactly what came to pass. "Great, now EVERY big gaming company is going to want to make a launcher!" And. It was very disliked, not because it did anything wrong, in particular (though Half-life 2 was a bit demanding, it felt like a resource hog, sometimes), but that it was a sign of things to come.
